Abstract of the topic:
The advent of ride-sharing using UberX (and other platforms) has disrupted the market. Henry Ergas and I were employed by Deloitte Australia to help provide an way to estimate the consumer benefits of UberX in Australia, as well as the consequences on the other participants in the market (taxi plate owners). It presented some interesting puzzles, which I will explore. Deloitte’s report is available: http://www2.deloitte.com/au/en/pages/economics/articles/economic-effects-ridesharing-australia-uber.html (or search for ‘Deloitte UberX’) (Flyer Attached).
