Celebrating the awards of Distinguished Fellow for Kym Anderson and Distinguished Public Policy Fellow for Sue Richardson
From: Friday December 20, 2019, 5:30 pm
To: Friday December 20, 2019, 7:30 pm
The Economic Society of Australia (ESA) invites you to celebrate the achievements of two amazing South Australians – Professor Sue Richardson AM and Professor Kym Anderson AC – who have recently been recognised by the Economic Society. In the 2019 ESA annual awards, Kym has been made a Distinguished Fellow and Sue has been made a Distinguished Public Policy Fellow.
The Distinguished Fellow award started in 1987 and the Distinguished Public Policy Fellow started in 2014. Only one award is made in each category in any year for the whole of Australia. Having two South Australians recognised in the same year is an achievement that we should be proud of and celebrate. And this makes it three for the Branch: Professor Jonathan Pincus was the 2015 Distinguished Public Policy Fellow.
A cocktail reception is being held in their honour at the National Wine Centre from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Friday 20 December 2019.
The ESA is inviting our members and a range of distinguished guests and organisations who have benefited from the significant contribution of Sue and Kym, those who study and apply economics in our community along with supporters of the Economic Society who make our work possible.
The full citations for their awards are attached to this invitation but, in summary:
- Professor Sue Richardson AM is one of Australia’s most prominent women economists who is currently a commissioner on the Fair Work Commission and was previously a commissioner at the Industry Commission (now the Commonwealth Productivity Commission). Her contributions to public policy range from child protection and poverty to education and employment along with energy, sustainability and climate change amongst other areas. The areas of her expertise touch on the lives of millions of Australians.
- Professor Kym Anderson AC is a prolific author and researcher whose work has been cited many thousands of times around the world. He has been a foundation stone of work at the University of Adelaide and the Australian National University for decades while also holding international positions at the World Bank and World Trade Organisation. As a global expert on wine economics, the National Wine Centre is a fitting place to recognise his achievements.
Numbers for the reception are limited so I encourage you to RSVP by 14 December 2019 to ensure your place.
The ESA is sponsoring the event so there is no cost for attendees and you will not be required to undertake any formal activities.
I appreciate your time in considering this invitation but I would be even more grateful if you can join us to offer your congratulations in person to Sue and Kym on 20 December 2019.
